Is it just me, or are the Google Search Results getting worse?

Google

I’ve noticed this happening over the last few months but had put it down to me not searching for the correct terms.

I’ve recently been involved with trying to locate about 10 ecommerce companies based in Scotland: they had to be of a certain size & ability.

To say it was a difficult search would be putting it mildly. Now before we go on, I’d just like to say that I’ve now managed to get a list and am quite happy with the results, so if you happen to be reading this and are an ecommerce company based in Scotland, thanks but you’re too late. Don’t email me!

Anyways, there I was trying to Google loads of generic terms for Ecommerce Scotland etc and every time I was coming up short.

Hardly anything being returned in the Google search results was relevant to me. I did get a load of spammy looking links that I just ignored and put down to my own error.

So, it’s interesting to read today on Mashable that Google have made a pretty significant change to their search algorithm, the idea being that it will help to filter out content farm type links and deliver more relevant results.

Here’s our old friend Matt Cutts again:

“This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on,” – Read the full article HERE

Fingers crossed this makes a difference, I’ll report back with any findings once it’s rolled out beyond the US.
